Hangzhou is the capital of Chinese e-commerce, and the MAX Technology Park is one of its industry hubs. Within it, this 2,200 m² show office is both a working space and a demonstration piece: a floor-by-floor argument for what next-generation online-retail workplaces can be.

The ground floor opens with a 7.5-metre-high lobby in which reception, lounge, exhibition space, meeting rooms and an auditorium are stacked and interlocked like building blocks, wrapped in whitewashed timber, metal-slat screens and saturated colour volumes. One level up, glass-walled R&D labs and fully equipped broadcast studios put the sector’s tools on display, from robotics benches to acoustic-foam-lined live-stream rooms.

The third and fourth floors work through varied workspace configurations: open desking with pin-board screens, team rooms, tea points and a family room. The fifth floor stages a new model of leadership, with a sculptural column whose felt fins branch across the ceiling like a tree, sheltering a green-marble reception and a suite of meeting and tea rooms.
